  • Athletics success!

    Published 21/06/22, by Andy Mari

On Thursday 9th June 2022, Roebuck Academy students from Year 4,5 and 6 attending the much-anticipated Athletics Competition at Ridlins Athletics Track. Roebuck was amongst 16 other schools across the partnership, competing in both track and field events throughout the entire day. The day started with a large parade around the track, where schools got the opportunity to represent their commonwealth country which SSFT had given them at the start of the year, with Roebuck's being Scotland. Following the parade and warmup, the busy day began with children from all year groups heading off in different directions to take part in either their field, or track event. All field events and the long-distance events were straight finals, with all other track events ran in heats to determine the finalists for the afternoon session. After a morning of long jumps, high jumps, cricket ball throws, javelins, sprint races, long distance races and relay races the finalists had been revealed for the afternoon session. Roebuck Academy making it to the final of all races bar one, so another busy afternoon ahead! On completion of all the final races and following the impressive display in the teacher relay race from Mr Moran and Mr Steedman who picked up the Silver Medals, it was time to announce the individual results, then the overall results.

  • Roebuck 'B'rilliant Football Friendly

    Published 10/11/21, by Shaun Downie

On a freezing cold night on Monday 8th November, Roebuck B Team had their first football match of the year in the form of a friendly away at Giles Junior School. This was the first time the squad had played together in competitive match against another school. The children were lucky enough to wear the brand-new football kit of blue and white stripes with the Roebuck badge proudly on display on their chest. All the team battled so hard throughout the game, having tons of fun even with the losing result.

Roebuck started off very strongly with the scored tied at 0-0 for the majority of the first half, unfortunately letting in a couple just before the break. The kids were buzzing to get out for the 2nd half and gave it a real good go having several attempts at goal on the counter-attack but without any luck. Giles stuck a few more goals in throughout the 2nd half, but the resilience from Roebuck was amazing! Never gave up, smiles on faces and having fun! Well done Roebuck.

    Mr Moran.

  • Under 11 basketball

    Published 06/03/20, by Robbie Steedman

On Thursday 28th March a team of 6 year 6 students attended the stevenage under 11 basketball competition. Over the course of the afternoon the team took part in a skills challenge and played in 5 group matches.

We got off to a slow start losing 4-0 to Giles our team didn't  quite click properly during this match and found it hard to get going. However this proved to be our weakest performance in the tournament as we went on to play very well in later games. Our next game was against Peartree after thinking about the last game we realised where we went wrong and put in an excellent performance, coming out 6-0 winners. Our third game was against Codicote, this was an extremely close game with both teams playing brilliant basketball, unfortunately we conceded a late long range basket which meant we lost by only one basket! The team didn't let that discourage them and came out for the next game full of energy. We faced St Vincent De Paul, we went 6-0 up but unfortunately we gave away the lead and let them get it back to 6-6. This result seemed better at the end of the tournament as St Vincent De Paul actually went on to win the competition. Going into the last game, a place in the bronze medal playoffs was still up for grabs. In what proved to be our last game the team played very well and we came out 6-2 winners. The scoreline wasn't quite enough to get us into the bronze medal playoff though.

Overall another good outing for a Roebucks sports team, showing skill as well as great sportsmanship and teamwork. Very big well done to the children who took part!

  • Roebuck Rally to Score Draw

    Published 26/02/20, by Shaun Downie

    Trotts Hill 3 – 3 Roebuck

An evenly matched game ended in a thrilling draw, with both sides showing plenty of endeavour and glimpses of real quality.

Roebuck recovered from a shaky start to lead 3-2 at the half time interval, with the help of some excellent deliveries into the box from wide positions. The boys have worked hard in training keeping possession of the ball and playing in the right areas so this was pleasing to see.

It took an excellent free kick from the home side to earn them a point but Roebuck battled hard until the end and neither side could complain about the end result.

With a win and two draws from the games played so far, Roebuck are still unbeaten in the league. I hope to see everyone in training on Friday so we can continue to build and improve.

  • Year 4 Rapid Fire Cricket

    Published 26/02/20, by Andy Mari

Two teams made up of Year 4 pupils took part in the Stevenage Sporting Futures Key Stage 2 Rapid Fire Cricket competition at Nobel School. Playing against some well drilled sides, the children quickly adapted to the rules of the competition and worked really well in their teams to master the tactics of the game.  Despite winning a couple of matches each the teams played each other for the minor positions in the competition, but nevertheless performed with great commitment and determination as well as excellent teamwork. Well done to all.

  • Roebuck roar to league success

    Published 27/11/19, by Andy Mari

    Longmeadow 0 – 9 Roebuck

Roebuck produced a fantastic performance in their first match of the league season.

The team raced into a 5-0 lead at half time with some quick, attacking football combined with strength and determination.

The message at half time was to keep playing confident football and try to get the ball moving quicker.

Some good saves from the two goalkeepers in each half kept a good clean sheet and the team can look forward to more league games in the future.

  • Netball fixture vs Knebworth

    Published 16/07/19, by Robbie Steedman

On Wednesday 3rd July Roebuck went to Knebworth in what would be our last game of the year.

Coming off the back of a fantastic win in our previous game we wanted to get off to a good start. Unfortunately Knebworth were strong in the first quarter and ended it 1-0 up after scoring the first basket. Determined to stay positive and after playing some good netball in the first quarter, we knew that the goals would come. In the second quarter we pushed on, playing some fantastic attacking play and that, mixed with improved shooting, got us in a 2-1 lead at half time. The second half began with more of the same, we passed around them and their defence struggle to cope with the pace of the passing and we scored three more goals making the score 5-1 going into the last quarter. Knebworth tried to push on and make a comeback scoring the first goal of the quarter, but again our attacking play was too much for them to handle and we scored one last goal to seal the win.

A fantastic last game for us which really showed our progression throughout the year.

  • Netball Fixture vs St Vincent

    Published 12/03/19, by Robbie Steedman

On a wet and windy Thursday after school, 8 Roebuck girls headed over to St Vincent De Paul for a game of netball.

The game was very close in the first third with the girls doing well in really tough conditions, the ball was slipping out of there hands at the last moments as we were building promising attacks but managed to into the break with a 1-0 lead.

A similar story in the second half as we struggled to get a rhythm going with our passing and let St Vincent back in the game ending the second third at 2-2

But we went out for the last third like a house on fire scoring 4 goals in a row to go 6-2 up with only 5 minutes left. But thinking they had the game in the bag let the team down as St Vincent fired back late with 3 goals of their own leaving the last 2 minutes very tense. But thankfully our attacking power proved too strong as we scored one last goal to complete the win!

The final score was 7-5 Well done to all the girls who took part it was a fantastic performance in tough conditions. It also means we keep our 100% win record so far this year in the league!
