  • Ducks in Nursery

    Over the last few weeks in Nursery we have been busy looking after five ducklings. 

    The ducklings arrived as five eggs and we were lucky enough to watch them hatch. We named them Daisy, Dave, Darren, Donald and Elson (born on Mrs Elson's birthday). 

    We have been learning about the life cycle of a duck and it has great to see how they have grown and changed. 

    The children were very excited to watch the ducks swim in a paddling pool for the very first time.

    The ducks are now enjoying their time back on the farm.

  • Exploring capacity in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have been exploring capacity. We have talked about how capacity is measuring how much liquid a container can hold. We used the vocabulary 'empty', 'full' and 'half full' to describe how much liquid is in a container. The children explored both the inside and outside water trays, using a variety of different containers. The children used cups, bottles, tubes and yogurt pots to fill the containers so that they were 'half full' and 'full' and were challenged to use the vocabulary when doing this.

  • Firefighters in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have been learning about firefighters and their jobs. We discussed fire safety and how to keep ourselves safe around fire. We all walked down to creature corner and used wooden sticks to create a campfire in the fire pit. We had a snack of marshmallows and cookies and talked about what we could hear, see and smell whilst sitting around the fire. We were very proud of how safe and sensible the children were whilst there.

  • People who help us in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have introduced our new topic 'People who help us'. 

    The children have enjoyed role playing nurses and doctors in our new doctors-surgery role play area and have been busy learning about their roles. 

    This week, the children have created their own police badges and we have discussed how the police help us in the community.

  • Latest news in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have been reading the story 'The Jolly Christmas Postman.'  We were very excited to find out that Father Christmas had left us a message. He asked us if we could write him a letter and send it to the North Pole. We discussed what a letter is and how our letter would need a stamp to be sent. We then walked to the local post box and posted our letters. Hopefully we hear back from him soon!

  • Little Red Riding Hood in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have been reading and retelling the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood'. The children have enjoyed making 'get well soon' cards for Grandma, counting how many objects in Grandma's basket and using the props and puppets to sequence the events. Alongside this, the children went on a wellie walk to find the big bad wolf. They were very excited to discover Little Red Riding Hood's cape and the wolf hiding in the woods.

  • Latest news in Nursery

    This week at Nursery it has been Nursery Rhyme week.  We have been learning and singing  a variety of rhymes and taking part in lots of different activities. These have included making friendship webs for Incy Wincy spider, counting stars for Twinkle Twinkle little star, exploring instruments and animal sounds for Old Macdonald had a farm.

  • Room on the Broom in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have been reading Room on the Broom and talking about events in the story. We were very excited to find that the witch had left us magic ingredients to make a potion! The children then have been making their own potions using a selection of spooky objects. Alongside this, the children have been exploring pumpkins and using their senses to investigate them.

  • Creature corner visit

    This week in Nursery we took the children on a very wet welly walk to creature corner. The children put on their wellies and puddle suits, and we walked across the field to find creature corner.

    We used our senses to talk about what we could hear, see, smell and touch. The children were all very excited to find snails, slugs and worms living in creature corner.

  • Welcome to Nursery!

    This week the children have been busy settling into their new environment. They have enjoyed exploring all the different areas, both inside and outside. They have particularly enjoyed exploring the role-play area, mud kitchen, sandpit and painting in the creative area.

  • Frogs in Nursery

    Over the past few weeks in Nursery we have observed the changes of our tadpoles. We were very excited to spot that some of our froglets have now become frogs! This week the frogs have started to change colour and grow bigger. We are hoping to release them into the stream very soon.
