WOW! what an amazing busy week we have had in Year one! We kicked off the week with a new chapter in maths all about 3D shapes. We went on a hunt around the classroom to find different objects that matched the 3D shapes! We enjoyed art this week with the focus being on another famous artist. We mixed primary colours together to make secondary colours, which we then created our amazing piece of artwork inspired by Jasper Johns. In science this week we were set the task of completing activities with our eyes closed!! We had to navigate our way around a maze, build something from playdough, guess what was inside the bag, and we even learnt how to write our names in Braille. In Year 1 we are adventurous!

There's so much to talk about in Year One and we have had so much to celebrate over the past few weeks.

We loved pyjama day last Friday, this marked the end of National Story Telling Week and the end of our work around the story "Journey" by Aaron Becker. Elm and Maple loved sharing their work with other classes from around the school. We enjoyed writing about the girl with the crayon and following her magical journey through forests, castles, and fighting armies of knights!
One of our favourite lessons this week has been thinking about the moon landing and what the astronauts did on the Moon. We made our very own footprint on the moon complete with American flag and moon rocks. We have also been celebrating writing in year one with some of our children getting Head Teacher awards for their amazing sentences.

In phonics, we have been allowed to write on the tables! This made our learning even more fun. We can't wait to see everybody after half term for more fun at Roebuck!

We have continued our learning on space and space travel - putting the events of the moon landing in order in History and writing about Tim Peake in Literacy. We even tweeted Tim Peake some photos of our writing, and we are hoping to get a retweet or a reply!

In maths, we have been learning about numbers to 20, and have used tens frames to make our numbers.

A cosmic adventure has begun in Year 1, and we have kicked off our Space topic!

We have been drawing space kittens, we started our daily sentence and have been sure to remember capital letters and full stops too. In maths, we have been thinking about positions and using the correct maths language of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

We started our planning stage for our space alien puppets and thought about how to join two pieces of fabric together. We will be sure to use these skills during our fantastic finish at the end of the half-term. We have the space dome visiting next week, so look out on X for photos and videos of our morning.

In maths, we have been using lots of different resources to help us with counting. We completed a scavenger hunt in science, spotting all the different signs of Autumn. We then put on our wellies for our walk to celebrate ‘Camping Out’. We collected lots of leaves and sticks which we used to make leaf and bark rubbings.
