  • Welcome to Pine Class

    Year 2 have had such a positive start to the year. They have quickly become familar with our routines and timetables. The adults have been busy listening to readers. We are delighted that all the children want to read with an adult at home every day.  The children have been busy helping the adults to plan their topic and clasroom. Our topic is Explore the Great Outdoors. If you do visit somewhere interesting at weekends please take a photo and share your adventures with the class. Thank you for the amazing holiday projects that have already been returned this week. We look forward to sharing them with the class over the next week.

  • Challenging ourselves in Maths

    This week we have been devloping our reasoning and problem solving skills. After solving a subtraction problem,  Year 2 needed to explain to a friend how we solved the problem. This involved talking, demonstrating using equipment or drawing a picture. Year 2 then taught each other different skills.

    Please remember to come to our fantastic finish on Wednesday 14th June at 2.15. We will be starting in the Year 2 classroom.

  • Finding out about Paul Klee

    Year 2 have been working very hard over the month of May on special work and assessments. They are confidently showing all that they have been learning. The adults are very proud of them.

    We have been learning about the artist Paul Klee and have been creating art work using colaage, drawing and ICT.

    Year 2 are continuing to learn about growing and have looked after the plants in their outdoor area each day. Thank you to the adults who continue to add plants to our garden.

  • Stunning start!

    Year 2 started their science topic by improving their outdoor area. Thank you to all the parents who were able to help with providing and planting plants. Whilst some were gardening other children were creating works of art to be displayed outside. After a busy afternoon all were pleased with the end result. Please let an adult in year 2 know if you would like to come in and help on another day to continue to work on our area or to hear readers. Thank you.

  • Off on a magic train journey.

    Thank you to all the parents who attended Year 2's fantastic finish. The children were excited to share songs they had been taught, descriptive writing about the train driver, retell stories and share their music compositions. After, they showed their parents how to create animations in the media room. Some children stayed in the classroom to show their parents their spelling game, reading space tent, handwriting and how to use QR codes in maths.

    It was an exciting afternoon which finished with ice cream wafers being enjoyed by all at the end of our journey.

    Many thanks to all the parents who were also able to attend the information session about the Year 2 SATs.

  • Read! Read! Read!

    Well done Year 2. You have all been working as a team to ensure you read at least 4 days a week. This week we achieved 93%. We now need to work a little bit harder to be the first class to achieve 100%. Please can all parents continue to help with this. Our reading assessments have improved quickly due to all this extra reading you are doing. Keep it up please.

    Calling all parents - please come to next week's Fantastic Finish and to find out about SATs. This will be at 2.00pm on Tuesday 14th March.

  • Our visit to St Albans

    On Thursday 25th January Year two had a brilliant learning experience at St Albans Cathedral. We went on a signs and symbols trail. We learnt all about materials and then made clay tiles. Year 2 were highly commended by the staff at the cathedral on their learning behaviour - Well done.

    Well done for winning the reading trophy again. Lets try for 100 % next.

  • Creature Corner

    Year 2 completed their learning in Science this term by visiting Creature Corner. They were investigating the different habitats. In addition, they explored what micro habitats were present. Children were excited to find nests, rotten apples, bark and dried leaves that were all homes to living creatures. The children were also delighted to see the habitats they made in Year 1 still being used by living things.

  • Christmas starts here!

    Year 2 had a brilliant learning experience at the church yesterday afternoon. They were split into four groups and took part in activities where they learnt more about the characters in the Christmas Story. Year 2 were highly praised for their learning behaviours and their participation. Many thanks to all the adults who took part yesterday.

  • Dinosaur Stunning Start

    Year 2 had a wonderful learning experience when Teaching Talons came to visit. We learnt how dinosurs became extinct and saw a wide range of fossils. After, we created fossil rubbings and made our own dionsaurs out of paper plates. We also met a wide range of animals including a large frog and owl. We were delighted with the learning the children showed. Teaching Talons were also impressed by the learning behaviours Year 2 children showed. Well done everyone!

  • An Amazing Start To Year 2

    The adults in Year 2 have been very impressed with the positive and mature start the children have made. All the children have tried their best. This week we have been learning about numbers. We have read, write and ordered numbers to 100 and beyond. Today we started to use the greater than and less than signs. Year 2 have also made an exciting start to their Animals on Parade topic 'Roar, Roar Roar!' and have helped to set up our outdoor learning area.

  • What a wonderful Year 2

    Year 2 have had a wonderful summer term. After working exceptionally hard for their special work, they have done very well in assessments. The adults are all very proud of them. They have also shown they are mature and ready to start Year 3 and KS2. All the children have been positive about learning and eager to start new challenges. We have started the week with lots of fun activities including sports morning and a picnic with Year 1. We have also shared our memories of Year 2. Mrs Elson, Mrs Butcher and Mrs Ainsworth will miss teaching Year 2 but look forward to their watching their progress in Year 3. Thank you for all the wonderful support we have received from parents over the year and it is very much appreciated. Have a lovely safe summer holiday.
