  • Phoenix Win Sports Day

    Published 15/06/17

Congratulations to Phoenix House who have won this year's sports day. It was a glorious day and all of the children had a great time, competing in different events to score points for their House. In the morning, our Nursery class did a flat race, relay race and obstacle race. We then had sprint races, long distance events, tennis relays and field events where all KS1 and KS2 children took part. The sportmanship, determination and perseverance on show was exceptional.

In the afternoon, all children took part in a round robin event where they scored points for their Houses in nine different activities. Once the points were totalled up, Phoenix came out on top with over 2700 points. Gryphon House finished in second place.

A big well done to all of the children who took part despite the sweltering heat at times. Thank you to so many families for turning up to support and staying to have a picnic with their children at lunchtime. Thanks also to Mr Downie for organising the whole day.

  • Competition Winners!

    Published 18/05/17

Congratulations to the eight children who were announced today as the winners of our Stevenage Football Club Supporters Association badge design competition. Lots of children through the school took part in the competition set by our local football club. They had to design a new membership badge for the SFCSA. A winner was chosen from each class by staff at the football club. The winners were announced in a special whole-school assembly this morning and were presented with a winners medal and their design by Lewis who leads on school partnership for SFC. All pupils at Roebuck are automatically members of SFCSA and this gives our families good discounts on many SFC products and in local restaurants and retailers. It gives each child a membership badge and card, as well as discounted rates to buy match tickets at The Lamex. It also gives one child each half term the chance to be the SFC matchday mascot where they get to lead the players out on to the pitch at the start of a EFL game. Please visit the community section of our website to find out more.

  • Terrific Tournament

    Published 18/05/17

A huge well done to our greta netball team who played in the Stevenage Schools' tournament on Tuesday this week. The A team played in a round robin event playing against the top six other school teams from across the town. This included many larger schools. Our girls won the first two games, scoring fourteen goals and only conceding two. We then lost narrowly 4-3 to Peartree School and were beaten by Knebworth and St Vincent de Paul. In the final game, our girls drew 6-6 with St Margaret of Clitherow School who this year won the Stevenage league. This was a great performance and a great way to finish the season. It was a wonderful tournament and we are very proud of all eight girls (pictured above) who have been terrific competing at this level all season.

  • Book fair and World Book Day bring reading alive at Roebuck!

    Published 09/03/17

Last Thursday, children and staff celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite book characters as part of our themed week based around a class book. We even had a bunch of 'Wallies' as staff dressed up as the favourite character from the picture book 'Where's Wally?' The week ended with excitement as our book fair arrived and all of the classes enjoyed time browsing through the books and creating their wish lists.

During Parents' evenings this week, the book fair has been open and we have been overwhelmed by the support from children and parents. Roebuck school has raised a whopping £1353.76 which means Scholastic will give the school £752.26 back to spend on books. Over the next few days, children and teachers will be busy writing down their wishlists and Mrs Thomas is getting very excited about spending all of the money on lots of lovely new books!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our book fair - happy reading!

We did it! The school has raised enough money to buy a new kit for our local First Responders. Well done everyone and thank you!

Back in January, all of the children took part in a sponsored bounce to try to help a local charity buy a new First Responder First Aid pack. The target was set and with everyone's help, we have raise £1800. This is amazing! A cheque was presented to the First Responders at the end of our whole-school Code of Conduct assembly on Wednesday. They were delighteed to say the least. After the assembly, a very kind parent donated a further £200 to take our total up to £2000. We have been blown away by the effort and generosity of all the children and their families. The First Responders and all school staff can not thank you enough.
