  • Tuesday at Kingswood

    Published 10/11/16

Well what a day. With the elements against us, cold and very wet with a bit of wind thrown in, both groups “manned up” and leapt into the day’s first activities.

Careful driving in side by side was the order of the day, with all children in both groups managing to safely navigate the extremely wet and muddy course. After this the children challenged themselves with Jacobs ladder, with some excellent teamwork in navigating the very wet and tricky ladder. Notable performances from group M was Jamie who managed to get to the top and Kiera who managed to get to the 5th rung! Both groups then braved the elements at the front of the site to build shelters using the natural resources that were surrounding them. Some great effort from everyone, although there was some flagging when the wind picked up.

After a refreshing lunch of fish fingers, spaghetti and chips, all groups spent time out of the weather indoors. Group M spent time scaling heights in indoor climbing whilst group N lit each other up in the laser tag.  The activities ended with indoor climbing for group N and some personal triumphs with most children achieving their goals and three children managing to reach the top of the wall, whilst group M enjoyed archery and were introduced to the tradition of shooting for cutlery. The evening entertainment saw the class dance the night away with 'Into the spotlight'.

  • Kingswood Arrival

    Published 09/11/16

Well Kingswood 2016 has definitely started, with the excited children really rising to the challenge in the afternoon with their first taste of life at West Runton. After a lovely journey the children settled well into the routine of making their beds, with some impressive efforts especially from Archie B- very efficient! With a lot of collaboration going on, eventually everyone managed to complete the task.

The children then enjoyed their first activities of Caving and Archery. Group M sunk to new depths in the caving system, which had quite a bit of water, after some rain in the week. Miraculously some children managed to stay relatively dry. Apparently a new technique of crab scuttling through the cave was demonstrated by out PE specialist (Miss Carter) and others followed suit. Not everyone however managed to stay as dry with two boys, whose names are rather similar, demonstrating effective army crawling through the obstacles and puddles underground.  All children went through the cave, and came out the other side without too much fuss.

Meanwhile group N managed to master the art of archery in the indoor shooting range. All children managed to hit the target on numerous occasions, with some expert shots really showing others how it should be done.

Evening entertainment saw the children enjoy a rather wet pool party followed by hot chocolate and a relatively early night.

  • Celebrating Music at Roebuck

    Published 03/11/16

The pupils and staff have had an amazing day learning about a range of different music styles. Many thanks to all our visitors including Miss Prosser who sang to the children in assembly and performed for KS1. Thank you to Damien and Ross for performing the trumpet and electric guitar to the whole school. We were also delighted that staff and pupils from Thomas Alleynes and Barnwell could attend and lead workshops in singing and mixing music using computer technology. We now have many budding young DJs!

This exciting day starts Roebuck on their journey to achieve Artsmark status. Our aspirations are high and we are aiming for Platinum (the top level awarded). We also hope to be seen as a Flagship school following our success as an Artsmark Champion school. We aim to improve music provision through the school and are working on continuing to develop strong partnerships with our local secondary schools. Many thanks for the time and help given from everyone involved.

  • Tag Rugby

    Published 03/11/16

Roebuck took part in the annual Stevenage Rugby festival hosted by Stevenage Sporting futures and Stevenage Rugby club at King George V playing fields. With a young and inexperienced squad competing against the best that Stevenage Primary schools could muster. Playing against larger schools, the team showed great spirit and determination and never gave up in keenly fought games, Despite losing four and winning only one of our pool matches, we were placed fourth in the league due to our superior try scoring record having consistently scored over 7 tries a game. Three of the games were only lost by one try and notable perfomances included a very close 9-7 loss to the eventual finalists St Vincent de Paul in which the lead changed hand on numerous occasions. Having then moved forward to the frendlies pool, Roebuck seemed to get rid of their inhibitions and managed to win two and draw their last three games scoring a total of 49 tries in the process.

The whole team contributed to some great running rugby and we managed to just be pipped at the post for the fair play award by Round Diamond. A huge well done to the team of: Archie B, Logan A, Amelie B, Eloise B, Zohul H, Freddie G, Harrison M, Max A and Harry C

  • Setting Our Bubbles Free!

    Published 25/09/16

The school held a wonderful Growth Mindset day on Tuesday which ended with a big finale where all of the children and parents 'set their bubbles free'. Everyone in the school wrote a wish and said it as they released their balloon - the wishes were all based on having a Growth Mindset. At the same time as starting their wish, everyone was releasing all of their worries. It was a great day where lots of fun was had by all.

During the morning, every child had written a story where the moral was based on one of our whole-school learning behaviours. These stories will be published to make a Growth Mindset book. We also held a whole-school assembly all about having a Growth Mindset. In the afternoon, we had over 80 families join us to work in our Houses and make a balloon and talk about what their wish could be. There was also training for all parents held in the hall which showed what a Growth Mindset is all about. Thank you to everyone who came and took part. Dont forget to 'keep your bubbles free'!

To find out more about having a Growth Mindset please visit our Growth Mindset and Parent Support pages of this website.

  • Roebuck's league campaign up and running!

    Published 16/09/16

Roebuck played their first Football match of the season against a strong Round Diamond team.

Five players made their full debuts for the team, as well as five players from last year, and they performed admirably. This was particularly evident in the first half, showing their work on passing and movement skills developed in training.

The scoreline of 6-0 did put a dampener on a determined display but the team take away plenty of positives as well as pointers to improve in the future.

  • Woburn!

    Published 19/07/16

The whole school visited Woburn Safari Park last Friday. It was a fanatsatic day. The animals lit up so many faces with children continually smiling from the age of Nursery right through to Year 6. We saw lions, tigers, bears, wolves, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, monkeys, penguins, sea lions and much, much more, as well as getting to play on play areas and watch shows where the animals did tricks and were fed. Please visit our class blogs for more pictures and details.

A huge thank you to all parents who helped on the trip and to the RSA who donated a large proportion of the cost. We had perfect weather and enjoyed a wonderful day out at the end of our transition week.
